Lately, starting any new academic learning for me has been an adventure. I am thrilled to able to start my journey into Online learning and teaching.
I am currently not fully aware of all the duties of an Online teacher. I know these series of classes will introduce me to what I need to know to be a successful Online instructor. I do believe that Online teachers need to be organized, prompt, patient and computer literate. I also think they need to be professional as well as considerate. It is not always easy to convey a message or instructions without verbal interaction. I have had online teachers who were proficient with their instructions and extremely considerate of their students. I hope to exude those qualities one day as an Online instructor.
Unfortunately, I have also had experiences with horrible Online instructors. Not responding to students inquiries in a timely manner and not giving feedback on submitted assignments were just a few of the things I have experienced from a few Online instructors. The one thing I noticed these instructors had in common was that they were not invited back to the school the following term!
I realize that there is a time commitment that must be addressed when exploring Online learning. I fully expect to be prepared for the months ahead as I pursue this goal of an Online Teaching Certificate. So, I will keep my eyes open and my typing fingers in shape as I hurry up and wait to learn about the world of Online teaching. :-D
